Squamish Valley Rod and Gun Club - Conservation and Recreation

The Squamish Valley Rod and Gun Club would like to invite Squamish area residents to join our club. We offer outdoor recreation for virtually 12 months of the year as well as the opportunity to prepare for hunting in a safe and controlled area.

We also have a very active Archery group which includes fully qualified junior instructors. The local Junior Olympic Archery Program grew out of this support. We recently hosted the JOP Outdoor Championships with many of our archers placing in the top three in their categories. Other junior groups that use our facilities are the Air Cadets, Army Cadets and Cub Scouts. We hosted and supported appropriate portions of the BC Wildlife program - Becoming an Outdoor Woman. We maintain representation on the Squamish Estuary Committee and in Estuary maintenance.

The Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club is offering Canadian Firearms Safety Course on Saturday and Sunday - May 3rd and 4th. Click here for the full details.

We provide training facilities for a broad range of law enforcement groups including RCMP, West Van police, Fisheries, Conservation and Railway officers. We expect to be an essential part of the training facilities for the security personnel required for 2010.

In the past, as many residents will remember, it was quite OK to drop around to the range and pay a day fee, before heading out to the woods. That is no longer possible as Federal regulations require that we NOT be open to drop-in public access. We are Members Only. Guests must be accompanied by a member. There is a locked gate.

Our membership fee is a very modest $60 per year, $15 for Seniors, $15 Juniors, and $15 Spouse. Membership application forms may be downloaded from our web site. We are nearing our probable membership cap and would much rather fill up with local members who can support our local needs.

IMPORTANT NEWS: The Anual Meeting (AGM) will be held at noon on Sunday, April 27th 2008 at the clubhouse. At that time Don Frost will be resigning as President. Hope to see you all there!

For the next several months the outdoor ranges will be closed Monday to Friday until 6:00pm. The ranges are open on Saturdays and Sundays although there may be the occasional closure - watch the calendar for details. These temporary closures are due to Kiewit blasting and extracting rock from behind our rifle range. Kiewit will post signs when they are working and will be taken down by 6:00pm when the work is completed for the day. The range IS NOT open when these signs are posted. The closures are temporary! Thanks for your cooperation! Kiewit may need to run a night shift and if this happens the club will not be open to members. An email will be sent out if this happens.

Monthly Calendar

• Each shoot begins at 10:00 AM. Open to non-members. Events fees apply. No day fees.

• 1st Sunday is warmly titled "old fart" pistols. Ladies may attend without having to accept that label! This is a structured shoot, but not intended to intimidate or eliminate anyone. Come on out and take a look. 50 rounds will see you through the day. Indoors during inclement weather.

• 2nd Sunday is .22 RF non-scoped rifles, Silhouette targets. An excellent time to bring your son or daughter. Indoors during inclement weather.

• 3rd Sunday is the Black Powder. Loaners are often available. Come out and see some charcoal burn.

• 4th Sunday is Hunter's Classic .Any hunting rifle including Black powder. Scopes set to 6X or less, or iron sights. 20 rounds will be more than enough. We now have a moving deer target. Call Jeff Rockwell at (604) 892-2383 for details or signup.

• Trap Shooting is usually started in the spring and lasts throughout the summer into the early fall. These shoots normally follow the Pistol Shoots and Hunter's Shoots. (note: Trap Shooting has been suspended until the SVRGC rebuilds the range in 2008)

• ARCHERY: ADULTS -  Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM
                  FAMILY -  Friday evening at 7:00 PM
  
  Both evenings will be indoors if required. We now have a wonderful, lighted new outdoor archery range beyond the rifle range, available at all times.

Membership

We have implemented the following membership categories as per our society's constitution: Regular, Junior, Senior, Spouse and Non-voting. More than one category may apply. Only voting members in good standing may participate in the election of officers.Membership annual fees:
