JOP News!

The Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club has a determined group of Junior Archers participating in their Junior Olympic Program. Our young archers ranging from 7 to 18 years of age instructed by Paul Greening, Grant Mckenzie & Chris Wike.

Our club had members participating in the B.C.Winter Games in Kimberly/Cranbrrok in February, 2008 as well as participating in numerous 3D shoots in Squamish, Semihamoo and Abbotsford and indoor & outdoor competitions throughout the year.

The Squamish club has successfully hosted an Outdoor Competition in June for the last 3 years.

The Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club is proud to announce that during February 21st-25th 2008 we had 4 of our Junior Olympic Program Archers participating in the B.C. Winter Games held in Kimberly/Cranbrook. Our archers brought home 4 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals. All of them did extremely well!

For the last six years or so the coaches and instructors at the club have kept their eyes open for promising young athletes to join the Junior Olympic Program (JOP) that runs on Monday evenings.  This program is sponsored by the BCAA and permits young archers to follow a structured program that recognizes their development and encourages participation in tournament archery.  The JOP program has allowed the club to send athletes and teams to regional events, provincial tournaments (including the BC Winter Games), and national events.  Several of these young Squamish athletes hold provincial records and have come home with multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals.  The club has hosted JOP indoor and outdoor tournaments, including  provincial outdoor championship tournaments.  Most recently we sent five archers from our club to represent Zone 5 to the BC Winter Games in Terrace, Mar. 4 - 7, 2010.  These five athletes brought home  one gold, three silver and a bronze medal.  Due to the dedication of the members of the club active in the archery division, the archery program at the SVR&GC is now considered to be one of the "benchmark" clubs in the Province.
