The Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club has a determined group of Junior Archers participating in their Junior Olympic Program. There are currently 18 archers ranging from 7 to 16 years of age instructed by Mike Gillespie and Paul Greening. They have participated in numerous 3D shoots in Squamish, Semihamoo and Abbotsford and will be participating in the upcoming "BCAA JOP Indoor Championships 2007"

Two of our Archers, Jon Greening and Jon Russell, participated in the B.C. Summer Games in the summer of 2006 each bringing home medals. Jon Russell recently competed in the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse coming in 10th in the individual competition and 4th in the team competition. |

The JOP Outdoor Championships - June 24th 2007 The Squamish Elementary School field was the site of this years B.C. Junior Olympic Program (JOP) Outdoor Archery Championships. The shoot was hosted on Sunday by the Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club and featured some of the finest young archers in the province, several of whom are from Squamish. This year’s shoot was made up of a select group of 32 archers from as far away as Kamloops. Squamish area archers ranging in ages from ten to sixteen recorded 5 first place, 3 second place and 2 third place finishes. In the Badger (10 to 11 year old) Bare Bow div. Owen Liebich placed 2nd with Joseph Moore placing 3rd in his first tournament. In the Cub (12 to 13) div. Alex Gulycz was 2 nd in Bare Bow and William Moore claimed 3 rd in the Recurve category. David McKenzie took home 1 st place with a score of 819 out of a possible 900 in the Compound group. Cadet (14 to 15) archers Erin Liebich, Nich Gulycz and Jordan Welch placed 1 st in their respective groups while Jon Russell and Jon Greening finished 1,2 in the Junior Recurve category. If you missed this year’s event, look for the archers to be on the fields again next year as Squamish is also hosting the 2008 JOP Outdoor Championships. |

The Squamish Valley Rod & Gun Club is proud to announce that this February 21st-25th 2008 we had 4 of our Junior Olympic Program Archers participating in the B.C. Winter Games held in Kimberly/Cranbrook. Our archers brought home 4 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals. All of them did extremely well! Congratulations Erin, Ethan, Jordan and Nicholas! We are proud of you! |
